Working Student Python Developer (*)


The working student’s primary responsibility will be to support data analytics workflows through e.g. data integration, data cleansing, exploratory analysis and application of existing OR algorithms. The working student may also perform other activities in support of the OR team such as creating documentation, presentations and software tests as well as performing web / market research on certain questions.

The working student will work in a group of passionate applied PhD-like researchers, where creativity, contributions and proactivity are welcome. The ideal candidate would be available for a long-term relationship.


  • Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in an accredited college or university – preferably major in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering or a similar quantitative discipline
  • Undergraduate students must have completed at least 1.5 years of study
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Working knowledge in Python 3
  • Basic knowledge of Docker, Unix/Linux, Version Control (Git)
  • Knowledge / experience in database management systems / SQL
  • Basic knowledge of MS Excel and standard Office components
  • Knowledge of OR topics, problems and algorithms is a plus
  • Basic knowledge in C++ and Java is a plus
  • Able to work independently and thoroughly in a dynamic environment with changing requirements
  • Dedicated and committed to proactively learn new tools, identify opportunities for improvement and promote their adoption, challenge traditional and conventional ideas to create new and modern solutions

The Data Strategy & Analytics department is on a mission to turn DB Schenker into a data-driven company. A team of Business Consultants, Data Scientists and Operations Research Specialists work in close cooperation with internal Business Units and IT to define DB Schenker’s data strategy, develop data-centric business models, consult business owners regarding data analytics potential and conduct related analytics projects, accumulate expertise on Big Data related tools and techniques, and manage the internal and external (partner) network.

The Operations Research (OR) team employs heuristic and exact methods as well as modelling for a wide variety of projects in the areas of transportation (vehicle routing, fleet sizing, …), network models (flows, hub location, …), scheduling, manpower planning and case-oriented studies.
